Mindful walking – a step to a healthier life

Hello and welcome to our short, no-fluff blog to quick & practical meditation routines for people on the go.

Meditation: What, How, and Why? Meditation is basically about actively triggering your mind’s internal relaxation processes. The critical part here is that you need to actively practice it, it doesn’t just happen by its own.

Many people nowadays are hooked up with meditation. It is often used to express the individual’s consciousness or thought, like turning his or her attention inward. It is usually practiced in the eastern religions, but now the western culture is more and more involved in it too.

Let’s face it – time is a luxury for many of us. In fact, we might be so busy that we wish there were more hours in a day. Can you imagine that? You spend a enormous amount of time at work, and when everything is said and done, it appears that you could have put in more time. That’s just how busy we are.

Interestingly enough our productivity has been fairly stagnant in recent times. There was a huge burst of productivity in past decades, but by and large, it has plateaued. Still, we work more and more hours nowadays.

It is quite a paradox: we are working more and more, tiring ourselves out, but really not accomplishing all that much.

How to find the balance

Meditation is the best solution you can find to get the balance you’re looking for without having to pop pills or sign up for expensive retreats. Best of all, it only takes a few minutes of your day. And you can combine it with outdoor activities.

Meditation has been traditionally associated with physical inactivity. When you think about meditation, you usually come up with a scenario in which a person finds a isolated area, closes his eyes, stays silent, and rests his body. But meditation doesn’t need to be like this?

Meditation means keeping in touch with yourself, and discovering your fullness and the many sides of your being. It is a method, and a skill, and a process.

It is a skill that must be formed.

It requires training and the right mindset. You cannot simply think that now I will meditate and expect to gain a result right after.

Meditation typically consists of a set of procedures and guidelines to be followed. Usually, the progress of it will depend on the loyalty to the given systems and rules.

Walking meditation

Walking meditation is unusual form of meditation that deviates from the old and traditional idea. It is a lot different from other types of meditation.

For one, obviously, you are not physically inactive just to do it. You need to move and be active, and you need to walk!

You have to engage your mind and body actively to encounter a concrete result.

The other benefit is that since walking is a daily activity, you can actually grow by meditation almost daily!

You don’t need that secluded place to meditate by walking. Anywhere will do. Actually, a noisy and crowded place is not preventing us.

Here is where the difficulty lies. Awareness must be focused, and concentration is critical.

You should not bind your mind to the outer world by the things that you see and hear. You must shield not to do anything about them, but you may be aware of them.

The guiding principle behind walking meditation is gaining a balanced awareness, stability, between your inner self and the outer world.

This meditation invites you to feel your entire body. It invites all the parts that make you up, being aware of how each of your body parts works.

While doing walking meditation, you also have to notice your mood and your emotion. These are done while you walk.

The outside world should not be in your focus. There will be things that catch your attention as you walk and meditate, but you are not to resist. Don’t hang on to these, though. You observe them without doing anything at all, you just have to let them pass by.

Real sense of awareness

The perfect result of walking meditation is the person’s awareness of the outside world while being fully aware of his inner self.

This is the real sense of awareness.

When this is achieved, problems and complexities of life will become more transparent and more straightforward. You can take full control of your life by bridging the gap between what is within and what is out of yourself. With that you can enjoy a healthier and a more happy lifestyle.

Almost everyone who starts with anything new to him or her will have lingering questions, hopes, and doubts about it. If you are into meditation, it is easy to start by combining physical exercise, like walking or hiking, into it. After all, you get both mental and physical benefits with your exercise.

– So keep walking, and have a healthier life –
